Creativity has always been part of my life from drawing
constantly as a child, learning to sew as a young girl to studying art in
college. My parents made art and creativity a daily part of our family life.
My mother shared her love of music in song and music lessons. She sewed many
a dress for me and my sister, often with matching fashions for our dolls. My
father enjoyed writing and a woodworking for enjoyment and together they set
the example that learning new skills and creating art for everyday was
valuable.
I took my first art class my junior year in high school and
never stopped. I continued my education at Gainesville College and completed
my degree in Art Marketing at North Georgia College and State University.
Through each of these educational experiences I learned new mediums and
approaches to apply to my own artwork. I fell in love with textiles in my
first textile design class. I had always enjoyed sewing but to take it a
step further and create the patterns on fabric was exciting to me. Patterns,
graphic elements and textures are a major influence in my artwork.
As with any artist my art is evolving constantly. My most
recent works are based on creating the positive spaces on the canvas with
paint and collage and adding layers until the negative space is defined to
reveal the image. I look at each piece as an opportunity to explore a new
medium, texture or subject and reveal it in an unexpected way.
I hope you enjoy your visit and that you find some
inspiration of your own to create daily.
